No lecture on Friday 10 August

Due to indecision and miscommunication by the University Registrar, some confusion has arisen about the status of 10 August. As discussed in class, the University was informed last week that 10 August was in fact a normal working day, and based on this communication, I scheduled a lecture for 12h30 on Friday.

The latest message (below) from the Registrar, however, indicates a decision to designate 10 August as a 'non-teaching day'. As such, I am not in a position to expect or demand your attendance at any lecture on Friday, and so I am forced to cancel the lecture.

I will reschedule the research session in due course. Please note that, as a 'non-teaching day' on which the University is otherwise open for business as usual, I will be available during my usual Friday consultation times (11h00-12h00), and may extend these if anyone requests an appointment between 11h00 and 13h00.

Message (of 7 August) from the University Registrar:

MESSAGE FROM THE REGISTRAR, KIRTI MENON

Dear Colleagues

Please note that the 10th August 2012 was erroneously marked as a University holiday in the almanac.

Kindly note that the 10th of August 2012 is a normal working day for both staff and students. However, to accommodate academic staff who have planned field trips or other off-campus academic activities for students during this time, this day has been designated as a non-teaching day. All other University activities will continue as normal. Please advise your students accordingly.
